In 2019, childhood friends Yashio Kaito and Senomiya Akiho are in their final year of high school. They are the only members of the school's robotics club, which has lost its funding. Akiho is passionate about robots and dreams of completing the giant robot her older sister Misaki started building in the same club. Kaito, on the other hand, is indifferent to robots and obsessed with the video game "Kill Ballad Online," but he stays in the club out of loyalty to Akiho.
After Kaito is falsely accused of cheating in his favorite game, Akiho makes a risky decision: she bets the club's existence to secure the funding needed to finish her sister's robot. As they work toward this goal, they uncover a conspiracy that threatens not only their club but also the world around them. The line between virtual reality and reality begins to blur, forcing Kaito and Akiho to confront challenges beyond their high school lives.
