Why

A boxing match unfolds in a ring, but the boundaries between the physical fight and its mechanical reproduction begin to blur. Punches thrown by the boxers become indistinguishable from the halftone dots used in reprographics, transforming the scene into a canvas for abstract animation.

Keiichi Tanaami captures this transformation by shooting a real boxing match with a motordrive camera, creating two thousand offset prints, and then rephotographing each one. The film explores the gap between the live experience of watching a match on television and the exhilaration captured in a newspaper print the next morning, questioning how movement and emotion are translated across different media.
