Shibuya Vernacular

Shibuya Vernacular is a four-dimensional short anime that begins at the very origin of Tokyo's iconic Shibuya Crossing, tracing its history back 10,000 years into the past. It is a collaborative project directed by Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, utilizing a unique hybrid of animation and live-action footage.

The special was originally screened on the large public displays at Shibuya Crossing itself, offering an immersive experience that blends the modern urban landscape with its deep historical roots. A version was also released online, making this experimental work accessible to a wider audience.
