Shinsen-gumi

The immortal bird Phoenix observes humanity's endless cycle of conflict, turning its gaze toward Kyoto during the final days of the Tokugawa shogunate. It focuses on the Shinsengumi, a special police force formed to protect the shogunate from pro-imperial rebels. Among them is Okita Souji, a brilliant swordsman whose unwavering loyalty to the cause is matched only by his deteriorating health.

As political tensions escalate, the Shinsengumi are ordered to raid the Ikeda-ya inn, where a secret meeting of anti-shogunate conspirators is taking place. The ensuing battle becomes a brutal clash of ideals, forcing each member to confront the cost of their allegiance. Through the chaos, the Phoenix questions whether violence can ever truly resolve the conflicts that divide humanity.
