Seven children at summer camp are caught off guard when snow falls in July. In the confusion, each receives a strange device that transports them to another world. They wake up in the Digital World, a realm inhabited by digital creatures called Digimon, who befriend them and keep them safe. The children soon learn they are the Chosen Children, destined to protect the Digital World from evil Digimon like Devimon and Vamdemon. Led by the impulsive Taichi Yagami and his hungry Digimon partner Agumon, the group must fight unknown evils, discover why they were brought there, and find a way back home.

A few years after the original Chosen Children saved the Digital World, a new generation of heroes is called to action. Daisuke Motomiya, Miyako Inoue, and Iori Hida receive special D-3 Digivices, joining Hikari Yagami and Takeru Takaishi, who still hold their original devices. Together with their Digimon partners, they must face a new threat. An evil ruler known as the Digimon Kaiser has emerged, enslaving Digimon across the Digital World and suppressing their ability to Digivolve. The new Chosen Children must harness the power of the Armored Digi-Eggs to stand against the Kaiser's growing influence and free the Digital World from his tyranny.

Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, has located the legendary Mewtwo in a secluded part of the Johto region. Determined to reclaim his ultimate weapon, he launches an operation to recapture the powerful psychic Pokémon. Ash and his friends find themselves ensnared by Domino, a new and formidable Team Rocket agent, while attempting to save Pikachu from Jessie and James. The captured Clone Pokémon are used as bait, forcing Mewtwo into a confrontation. The ensuing struggle becomes a fierce battle of wills between Mewtwo and Giovanni, as the cloned Pokémon grapples with its own existence and searches for a purpose in a world where it was created by science.
