Oruspe Suwop

In the Ainu language, "orushpe" means "storytelling" and "suopu" means "this place." This collection of short films brings to life tales rooted in the land and culture of the Ainu people, the indigenous inhabitants of Hokkaido, Japan.

Produced by the Foundation for Research and Promotion of Ainu Culture (FRPAC) and animated by various directors from Studio Rocca, each short film explores different aspects of Ainu traditions, beliefs, and daily life. The stories are presented through a blend of folklore and original narratives, offering a window into a world where nature and spirituality are deeply intertwined.

These films have been showcased at museums, schools, and film festivals, including the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival. They are later released on DVD and made available on YouTube with multiple audio and subtitle options, allowing a wider audience to experience the richness of Ainu storytelling.
