The film adapts five essays from Osamu Tezuka's collection "Essay in Idleness of Insects," blending scientific observation with mythical imagery. Each segment uses different animation techniques to explore the natural world through a child's eyes.
A young Tezuka chases a swallowtail butterfly named Oomurasaki with his net, his pursuit intertwining with dreamlike visions. The essays reflect his fascination with insects, moving from academic study to poetic reverie, revealing the boundary between reality and imagination.
