Discovered in Kyoto in 2005, this brief film consists of fifty frames, creating a three-second sequence. It depicts a young boy in sailor attire with a red cap. He carefully writes the kanji characters for "katsudou shashin," meaning "moving picture."
Upon completing the writing, the boy turns to face the viewer directly. He then removes his hat and offers a respectful bow. Created between 1905 and 1911, this fragment is a pioneering artifact from the dawn of Japanese animation.
