In the icy waters of the Arctic, hundreds of thousands of seals are hunted each year. Hunters stun the animals and drag their bleeding bodies across the ice to their boats, leaving a trail of blood behind. For the seals, this is a path of agony and desperate resistance.
Ruei-Fong Huang, an MA student in Multimedia and Animation Arts at the National Taiwan University of Arts, created this short film based on true events. "Red Spot" won the Golden Prize for Animation at the 2014 Youth Film Festival, depicting the brutal reality of the seal hunt through a stark, emotional lens.
