A short film by Keiichi Tanaami inspired by a fusuma (sliding door) artwork by woodblock print artist Shikou Munakata. Munakata wrote the Hannya Shingyo (Heart Sutra) on the fusuma in a single, uninterrupted stroke, without any preliminary sketches or drafts. The result is a powerful and compelling piece that has captivated Tanaami since he first saw it.
The film translates the energy and movement of Munakata's calligraphy into animated form, exploring the visual and spiritual essence of the sutra. Through dynamic imagery and rhythmic pacing, it reflects on the act of creation and the profound impact of the original work.
