Van is a lanky and apathetic swordsman on a solitary quest for vengeance. His only goal is to find and kill the murderer of his fiancée, a man known only as The Claw Man due to his distinctive prosthetic arm. His journey leads him to the city of Evergreen, which is under threat from bandits, and to a timid girl named Wendy Garret, who is searching for her kidnapped brother.
When Van refuses to help the city, dismissing its troubles as unrelated to his mission, a personal encounter with the bandits forces him into action. He discovers the outlaws have direct ties to The Claw Man and were involved in Wendy's brother's kidnapping for undisclosed reasons. With the bandits defeated, a reluctant Van finds himself accompanied by Wendy as they continue their shared pursuit.
