Winter Days is an animated film that adapts the classic 36-stanza renga poem of the same name by the 17th-century master Basho. The project honors the collaborative spirit of the original poetic form, with each stanza brought to life by a different animator.
Directed by Kihachiro Kawamoto, the film assembles a remarkable roster of 35 animators from Japan and around the world. Each contributor created a short, self-contained sequence of at least 30 seconds to visually interpret their assigned verse, resulting in a diverse tapestry of animation styles woven into a single cinematic flow.
