Sophie, a French philosopher, visits Fukushima Prefecture for the first time to attend a friend's wedding. Lost and unsure of her surroundings, she encounters a mysterious "friend" and a "map" that guide her through the region. As she follows their lead, making detours and stops along the way, Sophie begins to notice the intricate details of daily life and the landscape around her.
Gradually, Sophie realizes that everything in Fukushima—from its traditions to its everyday objects—is a form of "culture" created by someone and passed down through generations. This short animated film, directed by Sunao Katabuchi, takes viewers on a contemplative journey through the prefecture, exploring its hidden beauty and the stories embedded in its people and places.
