Years after the Anshi Rebellion, the Tibetan army invades the southwest, and Tang dynasty military commander Gao Shi suffers a defeat in battle. As Chang'an faces imminent danger, Gao Shi, trapped in the besieged city, recalls his past experiences with the legendary poet Li Bai to the eunuch serving as military supervisor.
Through his memories, the film explores the deep friendship between Gao Shi and Li Bai, from their youthful ambitions to the challenges of their later years. As Gao Shi reflects on their shared dreams and diverging paths, the story paints a vivid picture of life during the Tang dynasty.
