On a distant planet, an elderly man who has spent thirty years searching in vain for other survivors after an apocalyptic disaster decides to return to Earth for a final homecoming. Meanwhile, a lightly salted rice ball named Shio Musubi meets other rice balls in the park, each with unique traits that make him feel unremarkable—until a scene at the end of his journey changes his perspective.
