Amaryllis

A short animated piece created for NHK's Minna no Uta series in 1968, based on a melody mistakenly attributed to King Louis XIII. The tune, originally from a ballet by an unknown composer, was arranged in the 19th century by Henry Ghys and later given Japanese lyrics for this broadcast.
The animation accompanies the song "Amaryllis," which became widely known in Japan as a French folk tune. Its melody can still be heard today as a chime signaling the hour in some schools and rural areas.
