The manga Happy Kanako's Killer Life, by Toshiya Wakabayashi, is getting an anime. TOHO Animation announced over the weekend that the adaptation will premiere in April 2027, and we already know the main staff and the first voice cast members.

The series will be directed by Shinji Takamatsu, known for his work on Gintama, with studio DRIVE handling production. Character designs are by Yoshiyuki Okubo, who also serves as chief animation director.

As for the voices, Hana Tamegai will play Kanako Nishino, Ryota Suzuki will voice Sakurai, and Junichi Suwabe will voice the President.

A hitwoman with little self-confidence

The story follows Nishino Kanako, a woman who hates her job and accepts the first job offer that comes her way without a second thought. What she doesn't expect is that the interview is for an agency of contract killers, and even less that she'd be so good at taking people out.

Kanako doesn't have much self-confidence, and adjusting to her new life as an assassin isn't easy for her. The big question is whether she'll manage to earn the respect of Sakurai, her coworker: a surly guy, but pretty attractive.

The manga already made the jump to live action with a series that premiered on DMM TV in February 2025. The second season arrived on the same platform on September 17 of that year.

For now there are no details on the anime's length or its distribution outside Japan. It also hasn't been confirmed whether any platform will bring it with Spanish subtitles or dubbing.

With this adaptation, Happy Kanako's Killer Life joins a recent batch of announcements from TOHO Animation, though for now we'll have to wait until 2027 to see Kanako dishing out lead on screen.
