Ao Ashi Season 2 reveals episode 4 synopsis: Ashito singled out as the weak point
The new episode, titled "Kaname", shows Ashito overwhelmed by the pace of the Premier League against Kashiwa Sho.
The official website of Ao Ashi Season 2 has shared the synopsis and preview images for episode 4, titled "Kaname" ("The Key"). The second season has been airing since October 4, 2026 on NHK E-Tele, and this episode arrives at a rough moment for Ashito Aoi: the opposing team has already figured him out.
The synopsis drops us in the middle of the match against Kashiwa Sho Commercial High School. Esperion Youth has managed to score first, but the joy doesn't last. Ashito can't keep up with the pace of the Premier League and the opposing team identifies him as the "defensive hole", the weakest link to attack over and over again.
It's a situation we've seen hinted at in other moments of the series: Ashito has exceptional game vision, but his physique and defensive reading are still far from the level demanded by the top youth category. Here, that shortcoming becomes the center of the match.
A chapter of tactical tension
The synopsis describes an Ashito who feels overwhelmed, "unable to do anything", but who doesn't give up: he tries to find his way through the chaos while searching for a solution. At his side, Akutsu doesn't stop running to cover his back. It's an interesting detail, because the relationship between the two has always been tense, and seeing them work as a team in a critical moment could lead to a lot.
Meanwhile, coach Fukuda watches the match unfold with a stern look. Those who have read Yūgo Kobayashi's manga know that Fukuda isn't the type to shout from the sideline: he tends to analyze, wait, and let his players find the answer. The fact that the synopsis highlights his expression is no coincidence.
The pace of the season
Ao Ashi adapts the soccer manga that has been published in Big Comic Spirits magazine since 2015. The first season of the anime premiered in 2022 and had 24 episodes. This second installment started in October 2026 and is split into two blocks: the first is airing now on NHK E-Tele.
The story follows Ashito Aoi, a high school forward with a natural talent for reading the game, who enters Esperion's youth academy and discovers that his future isn't in the opposing goal, but at fullback. It's a grounded spokon that takes youth soccer seriously and explains real tactical concepts without losing its dramatic edge.
Episode 4 is announced for next week, following the weekly broadcast on NHK E-Tele. There's still no confirmed date for an English dub or a streaming platform in our region, so we'll have to keep an eye out for future announcements.
What do you expect from this match against Kashiwa? Do you think Ashito will manage to turn the situation around, or will Esperion have a hard time? I'll read you in the comments.
