Behaviour Interactive Leaks Its New AAA: A Sci-Fi Shooter with Realistic Touches

A job listing for a senior technical animator reveals that the Dead by Daylight studio is working on an FPS with Unreal Engine and possible mechanical enemies.

Mariana García 5 October 2026

A big secret just slipped out. Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead by Daylight, posted a job opening for a senior technical animator and inadvertently revealed that they are working on a AAA science fiction title. A first-person shooter, to be exact.

The position is for their Montreal studio in Canada, and the text leaves no room for doubt: they are looking for someone to build the animation system for a project using Unreal Engine from the ground up. And not just any project, but one with a high standard of realism.

An FPS with robots and mechanics yet to be discovered

The juiciest part comes in the requirements. The candidate will have to create and maintain rigs for bipedal and non-bipedal characters, with special mention of mechanical structures. Translation: it's very likely we'll see robots, metallic creatures, or enemies with mechanical parts moving across the screen.

They also ask for experience with Unreal Engine's Control Rig and real-time procedural animation systems. That tells us the animations won't be static, but will react to the environment and what happens in the match. Exactly what you'd ask for from an FPS that wants to feel alive.

That said, we still don't know if that realism refers to the visual aspect, the physics, or the mechanics. The listing doesn't clarify it, so we'll have to wait.

Nothing in their catalog matches this project

The curious thing is that Behaviour Interactive has nothing announced that matches this description. In 2023 they released Meet Your Maker, which did have certain science fiction elements, but that was on another scale. This sounds like a big production, the kind that simmers for years.

The studio usually works with giants like Microsoft, Sony, EA, Warner, Netflix, or Take-Two. So this FPS could be an original development or a commission for one of those partners. For now, neither the IP nor the publisher is confirmed.

When will we see it? There's no official date. There's speculation about a possible appearance at The Game Awards 2026, but it could also be saved for a 2027 event. Those are just rumors.

What we do know for sure is that the studio is building a strong technical team for this shooter. And that the leak, by accident, leaves us with more questions than answers.

What do you think about the idea of a sci-fi FPS made by the folks behind Dead by Daylight? I'll read you in the comments.
