Gaia Crisis, a New Animated Horror Title from the Creators of Clea, Arrives on PC in 2027
InvertMouse announces its next project: a 2D adventure with combat, puzzles, and a story led by Charlotte and the War Maiden.
Studio InvertMouse has unveiled Gaia Crisis, its new action-horror video game with an anime aesthetic. The title will arrive on PC via Steam in 2027, although no concrete release date has been announced yet.
Behind the project is the team responsible for the Clea series, an indie horror benchmark that already proved this studio knows exactly how to make our skin crawl. Now they're making the leap to a more ambitious project, with a story that blends action, puzzles, and a carefully crafted atmosphere.
An Ancient Curse
The story of Gaia Crisis begins in a world where, every thousand years, one person is chosen as a vessel to revive the War Maiden, a key figure in the fight against a being that seeks to spread death across the surface. Charlotte, the protagonist, must face that destiny across three major story arcs and 24 chapters.
The game is presented as a 2D action-horror adventure. According to InvertMouse, players will need to solve puzzles, dodge traps, and take down enemies that stand in their way. They also promise hidden areas to improve abilities and unlock additional outfits, a bonus that's always welcome in these kinds of games.
Combat, Voice Acting, and Plenty of Tension
One of the biggest selling points of Gaia Crisis is its combat system, dubbed 'God's Judgment.' The idea is to combine action and horror in the same arena: you'll be able to launch enemies into the air, defend yourself, stun them, and execute them with holy blows. There are also penetration spells that add variety to encounters.
The audio department doesn't fall behind. More than 30 voice actors take part in the cinematic scenes, which should add far more weight to a plot that intertwines the fates of Charlotte and the War Maiden. As the story progresses, both protagonists are drawn into a clash that promises to be as dramatic as it is inevitable.

According to its leads, the experience with Clea was the foundation that gave them the confidence to tackle something bigger. The support of players who followed that saga allowed them to assemble the team needed to shape this new adventure.
Another image from the game, focused on its horror atmosphere. The studio also confesses a special fondness for video game history. During development, they listened to soundtracks from other titles and visited arcades and museums dedicated to the medium. That passion for gaming's legacy shows in the care they put into every detail of the project.
For now, it's a waiting game. Gaia Crisis is still in development for PC and Steam, and InvertMouse notes that the exact release date will be announced later. We're already keeping an eye out for any news.
