Okabe Rintarou, a self-proclaimed mad scientist, spends his days in a small Akihabara apartment with his childhood friend Mayuri Shiina and otaku hacker Hashida Itaru. Together, they form the Future Gadget Laboratory, tinkering with inventions like the "Phone Microwave," a device that can turn bananas into green goo.

When Okabe attends a conference on time travel, he discovers that the Phone Microwave can send emails to the past, altering history. As he experiments with this power, he attracts the attention of the mysterious organization SERN. Okabe must confront the dire consequences of changing the past, fighting to save his loved ones and preserve his sanity.
