Cyberpunk: Edgerunners director scouts locations with the game's virtual camera

The Trigger team roams Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 to pick the settings for the second season.

The team at Trigger is using the virtual camera in Cyberpunk 2077 to choose the settings for the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Director Kai Igarashi roams Night City inside the video game and marks the spots that best fit the story, showrunner Bartosz Sztybor said in an interview with GamesRadar+.

Sztybor explains that he doesn't need to point out specific locations in the scripts. He knows the studio knows the city better than he does. "Trigger has an advantage: they're all die-hard fans of the game," he says. "They know this city better than I do."

A virtual camera for strolling through Night City

Director Igarashi moves around the map with the virtual camera tool, the same one players use to take screenshots. He looks for corners, streets, and venues that fit what each scene calls for. Sztybor compares him to the season's new character, Roman, who also films with a handheld camera while walking through the city.

"Director Kai Igarashi is basically Roman. He goes around with his virtual camera, roams Night City in the game, and looks for the perfect spots for the story. The fun part is that I don't have to write specific locations in the script, because we know Trigger always finds the perfect setting," Sztybor says.

The first season already featured recognizable locations from the game: the Afterlife bar, Tom's Diner, and the H4 megabuilding. The second one will go further. Players will be able to identify specific corners and storefronts in this dystopian city.

New characters in the second season

The sequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will add Vic Kingsley, Roman, Talia, and D to the cast. With them, the series will show Night City again through Trigger's animation, now with a selection of locations taken directly from the game.

CD Projekt Red confirmed the second season in 2025, but has not announced a release date yet. It's also unknown how many episodes it will have or whether Netflix will be the streaming platform again, as it was with the first installment.
