Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 drops trailer and hits Netflix on October 20
CD PROJEKT RED and TRIGGER introduce the four protagonists of the new story, darker than the first season.
We have a date and a trailer. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres on October 20 on Netflix, and its first official teaser confirms the story will be completely new, with a cast different from David and Lucy's.
The sequel comes again from the collaboration between CD PROJEKT RED and studio TRIGGER, the same team that made the first season one of the most talked-about anime of 2022. This time, the plot stays within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe but goes for an independent story.
Several anime characters with a futuristic background and explosions. The four characters who will carry the story are Weak Kingsley, the netrunner D, the cinephile Roman Carax, and Talia Yang. There are no details on their individual stories yet, but the overall tone is already set: the production describes this second part as a cruel legend of redemption and revenge.
A return with familiar faces on the team
Direction is in the hands of Kai Igarashi, who already directed episode 6 of the first season. Kazuki Sugano handles character design, and the core writing team returns for this installment. That's a good sign for those left marked by the original story's ending.
Several anime characters on a colorful, dynamic background. The announcement also confirms actor Daniel Wu, who will voice Kirill Yang. It's a notable addition for a production that already showed in its first installment how well it blends international talent with TRIGGER's visual signature.
The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners arrived wrapped in skepticism and ended up becoming a phenomenon. Its soundtrack, its animation, and above all David and Lucy's arc set a very high bar. Now we'll see if this new story manages to shine without leaning on that farewell.
On October 20, we'll find out.
