Wenku launches OPC, its all-in-one platform for creating anime with AI
The Chinese giant announces its first AI-generated animation projects: 'Anti-Science Beast Taming', 'The Verdict' and 'Cyberpunk Hero'.
The Wenku group presented its OPC platform on October 16, an all-in-one system that connects IP licensing, AI production and global distribution. The announcement took place during the Wenku Creation Conference 2026, held in Hangzhou, where the company also unveiled its first AI-generated anime projects.
Wenku CEO and chairman Hou Xiaonan explained that the OPC platform evolved from DramaBuddy, the animated comic creation assistant the company previously launched. The new tool will let creators manage the whole process: from access to a catalog of author-approved IP to AI production and distribution across multiple channels.
The platform includes four main functions. The first is opening a massive IP catalog with confirmation from the writers. The second is full AI production of animated comics, including a "one-click conversion" feature that translates and adapts finished works into ten languages. The third is direct distribution on Qidian Comics, ToonScroll and Tencent ecosystem channels. The fourth is an incentive system with creator rankings from A to S tier.

The top ten OPC creators each exceed one million yuan in annual revenue. Some collaborating teams have reached profit shares above six million yuan.
First AI anime projects
The conference served to present the first batch of high-quality AI-generated anime projects. The list includes Anti-Science Beast Taming, The Verdict, Spirit Museum and Cyberpunk Hero. The latter already had a pilot episode that generated strong buzz in China and abroad during the second half of the year.
Posters of the first AI anime projects presented by Wenku. The projects span genres like science fiction, beast taming, western fantasy and folk suspense. Wenku will develop them in collaboration with professional animation studios, in what the company describes as the first integration of "web novel IP + AI technology + professional animation power".
The push into AI animation is backed by the results of the animated comic business. In the first half of the year, Wenku's revenue from short series and animated comics exceeded 430 million yuan, a year-on-year growth of 230%. More than 660 of the company's animated comics have surpassed ten million views, and 107 of them have exceeded one hundred million.
International expansion and audience data
International distribution represents a growing part of the business. ToonScroll, Wenku's animated comic platform abroad, has 50 works with more than ten million views, 11 with more than 50 million and three that surpass one hundred million. The catalog is available in more than ten languages.
According to data cited by the company, the international AI animated comic market will reach 4 billion dollars this year. Wenku considers overseas expansion to be the second growth curve for AI-generated video.
Huang Yan, senior vice president of Wenku, explained that DramaBuddy will become the unified entry point for OPC creators. Anyone or any studio that registers on the tool can join Wenku's animated comic ecosystem directly as a creator or supplier.
The Qidian Comics strategy is also changing. Support will shift from focusing on the most popular works to expanding toward mid-tier titles with potential. Adaptations will be able to start while the original novel is still being published, instead of waiting for it to finish. And serialized development will be prioritized over one-off adaptations.
The case of Three Thousand Shelters illustrates this model. Its animated comic has reached 35 seasons and more than 4 billion views across all platforms. The original novel, I Built a Shelter in the Eternal Night, climbed to fifth place on the sales chart.
The stance on literary creation
Hou Xiaonan insisted on separating AI audiovisual production from literary writing. "Literary adaptation can use AI, but literature itself cannot be AI," he said during his speech. The Qidian platform is running a cleanup campaign against AI-generated texts this year, with adjustments to popularity rankings and daily publishing limits.
"We want writers to be able to try free self-expression. Even if they don't chase market trends, if the content is good, they will have guaranteed traffic and income."
Yang Chen, vice president and editor-in-chief of Wenku, added that Qidian Books has launched several support measures for quality works: ranking adjustments, a selected works channel, comeback badges and manual support for titles with few subscriptions. The platform will also distribute one billion Qidian coins in coupons and discounts so readers can support quality content with low revenue. The cost is assumed by the platform and authors collect their royalties at the original price.
On adaptations, Yang Chen noted that Wenku maintains the principle of "open cooperation, adapt whenever possible". Thanks to animated comics, more than 1,500 writers have received income from visual adaptation for the first time. As of September, more than 300 authors exceeded 10,000 yuan in royalties from animated comics and short series, almost a hundred surpassed 100,000 and the highest exceeded one million.
Stage presentation at the Wenku Creation Conference 2026, with screens showing anime images. The conference also announced the creation of an IP Transformation Center in collaboration with the Shangcheng district in Hangzhou, focused on traditional Chinese culture. Construction of a Wenku AIGC audiovisual industrial base in the same area will begin soon.
The group plans to launch more than 20 video games based on its IP over the next three years. The Lord of the Mysteries adaptation topped the iOS free download chart for several consecutive days. The Under One Person game will launch in December with more than 33 million registered users.
