Chuncheon Anime Festival 2026 Breaks Record with Over 40,000 Visitors
The 29th edition of the South Korean event mixed concerts, retro games, and AI experiences for the whole family.
The Chuncheon Anime Festival 2026 closed its 29th edition with numbers that confirm its momentum. According to an announcement by the Chuncheon city government on October 6, more than 40,000 people visited the event between October 3 and 5.
That's roughly 12,000 more visitors than last year. The festival took place around the city's Animation Museum and focused on combining animation and toys with concerts, video games, and artificial intelligence experiences so children and parents could enjoy it together.
The opening ceremony had a special touch with a magic show by illusionist Choi Hyun-woo. Before the start, the opening video created by the winners of the AI animation video contest—organized as a lead-up to the event—was also presented.
Concerts, Games, and Plenty of Nostalgia
The programming didn't let up over the three days. There were concerts by Bebefin, a sing-along show from Gogo Dino, and performances by the Insider family and YouTuber Bangshin TV, a Chuncheon native. Kids also got their own EDM party, and bubbles, balloons, and magic acts appeared throughout the venue.
Nostalgia was one of the festival's cornerstones. Giant hot air balloons and an eco-friendly playground with 12 types of trees were set up in the lawn area. The retro zone included an arcade game room and a stationery shop of memories so parents and children could share the gaming culture of bygone eras.
The more curious visitors found an AI Playground where they could create short videos and games with generative AI, along with virtual reality experiences, drones, and the "Kids Dream Market" children's secondhand market. There were also illustration exhibitions and a small marketplace.
The festival kept its commitment to sustainability. At the ESG toy market, broken toys were repaired, used ones were traded, and new products were created. Food trucks used reusable containers to reduce single-use waste.
A Chuncheon city spokesperson explained that the festival's advantage is that children and parents can share their culture and memories. They added that they will analyze the public's response to turn it into the city's signature family festival.
The organizers deployed safety personnel in each area and coordinated with police and fire departments. They also used a parking control system with drones and AI to monitor vehicle flow in real time and strengthen management during peak hours.
