Chen Lei, the creator of the "Hunzhi" brand and the popular book series "Half-Hour Comics", will visit Shanghai's Changning District with his team. The event runs from October 7 to 11 at Bailian Xijiao Mall, where they will set up a space to explore history and science through humor and comic panels.

The event is called "Knowledge Tour" and combines workshops, talks, and drawing sessions. Chen Lei himself will share his experience as an author and speak face-to-face with the public about the characters he has portrayed over the years.

A Program for Learning Without Boredom

The Hunzhi team has prepared several activities designed to help children and adults approach dense topics without feeling like they are in a classroom. The idea is to use comics as a bridge: to explain, but also to make people laugh.

Among the confirmed content is a session dedicated to Archimedes, told in a comedic monologue format. The goal is for attendees to understand his life and scientific contributions through jokes, without the rigidity of an encyclopedia.

There will also be a journey through the history of Chinese ceramics, from antiquity to the Ming and Qing dynasties. The team will use drawings to explain the difference between earthenware and porcelain, and how a simple piece of clay can tell centuries of culture.

From Aircraft Carriers to Airplanes: Science in Panels

Another highlight will be a talk about the Fujian aircraft carrier, the most modern in the Chinese Navy. The Hunzhi team will use their panels to explain the electromagnetic catapult system, one of the ship's technical secrets, and will also review how warships are named in China.

Aviation will also have its moment. Through comics, they will tell how humanity fulfilled the dream of flight and break down the scientific principles behind an airplane. This activity is designed to spark young people's interest in aerospace engineering.

The event requires no prior knowledge. The sessions are designed so that anyone can follow along, even if they have never read a popular science book.

The "Half-Hour Comics" Phenomenon

Chen Lei became known in China for turning complex topics into easy-to-digest comic strips. His series "Half-Hour Comics" has sold millions of copies and has helped many readers approach history, economics, or science without fear.

His team's style is somewhat reminiscent of Japanese educational manga, but with more direct humor and a strong focus on the Chinese audience. It is pure popular science, without academic pretensions.

The visit to Changning is an opportunity to see Chen Lei and his team at work in person. It is not a typical book signing, but an event with several simultaneous activities and plenty of room for interaction.

If you are in Shanghai those days, Bailian Xijiao Mall is in the heart of Changning. Admission is free and activities are spread across the five days. It is best to arrive early, because this type of event tends to fill up quickly.

Would you like to see this comic-based educational format come to Latin America? Tell us in the comments what topic you would like to see explained in panels.
