Fullmetal Alchemist

鋼の錬金術師

In a world where alchemy is both a science and an art, practitioners are bound by the Law of Equivalent Exchange: to obtain something, one must sacrifice something of equal value. Brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric learn this lesson in the cruelest way when they attempt the forbidden act of human transmutation to bring their mother back to life. The ritual fails, and the price is devastating. Edward loses his left leg, then sacrifices his right arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor, leaving his younger brother without a physical body.

Determined to restore what they have lost, Edward becomes a state alchemist and sets out with Alphonse to find the legendary Philosopher's Stone, said to bypass the laws of alchemy. Their search takes them across the country and deep into the military's secrets, where they discover that the Stone's true nature is far darker than they ever imagined.
