Buddha

In ancient India, drought, famine, war, and the rigid caste system crush the lives of ordinary people. Among them, the slave Chapra saves a general and is adopted into a noble family, hiding his origins as he climbs toward power. His fate becomes entangled with the birth of Prince Siddhartha, who grows up sheltered from the suffering outside the palace walls. Siddhartha abandons his royal life and journeys across the land, confronting ascetic self-mutilation, caste oppression, and the nature of human pain. His search for meaning leads him toward enlightenment, while the lives of the desperate and the powerful continue to intersect around him. Osamu Tezuka reimagines the life of the Buddha
