Tenebris Somnia, the horror mixing pixels and live actors, is now on sale

The Argentine survival horror arrives on PC and consoles with a style that alternates 16-bit graphics and scenes filmed with actors.

Saibot Studios and New Blood Interactive have released Tenebris Somnia, a retro survival horror that combines pixel graphics with live-action scenes. The game has been available on PC and consoles since October 16.

The proposal takes the formula of classics like Silent Hill or Resident Evil and reinterprets it with a 16-bit aesthetic. But what really draws attention is its visual approach: at key moments in the story, the screen shifts from pixels to sequences filmed with real actors and special effects.

The story follows Julia, an Argentine woman searching for her ex-boyfriend who ends up trapped in a nightmare of a parallel world full of horrifying creatures. The cast of the live-action scenes is led by Clara Kovacic as Julia, joined by Yael Tesouro, María Eugenia Rigón, and Esteban Prol.

The cinematics are handled by an Argentine film team with awards to their name. Additionally, Mason Smith, creator of Faith: The Unholy Trinity, serves as executive producer. That's why many already see Tenebris Somnia as a kind of spiritual successor to that work.

Platforms and versions

The game can be purchased on PC through Steam, GOG, and Microsoft Store. It's also available on PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions will arrive later, though there's still no concrete date for either.

Tenebris Somnia had already been shown before at Tokyo Game Show, where it was presented live. And if you want to try it before deciding, there will be a playable demo at the EVA event, held from October 21 to 24.

We love seeing how indie horror keeps exploring risky mixes like this one. Will you give Julia and her pixelated nightmare a chance? Tell us in the comments if this type of horror with live actors appeals to you.
