The Walking Home with You anime now has a release window: April 2027. The production announced it this Wednesday with a new promotional visual. That said, there are still no details on the studio, staff, or cast.

The series adapts the manga written and illustrated by Mai Matsuda, which has been running in Futabasha's Manga Action magazine since 2023. Omoi is releasing it in English, and its synopsis makes the tone clear: a coming-of-age romantic comedy about taking the walk home at a leisurely pace.

What Walking Home with You Is About

Shun was the star of his middle school soccer team until an injury forced him to give up his dream. Now in high school, he's drifting, with no real interests or passions. That is, until he meets Naoki, a rather peculiar senior.

Naoki drags him into her unofficial club: the Hyper-Epic Walking Home Club, with a single member dedicated to turning every trip home into an adventure. Shun follows her into her fantasies, seeking elaborate detours, secret treasures, and anything that catches her eye. The underlying question is whether the club can bring color back to his monotonous life.

Matsuda is no stranger to readers of school romance. She's the creator of Hikaru in the Light!, another manga in a similar vein. With Walking Home with You, she continues that line of stories about characters who meet amid the routine and find something different in it.

What's Still to Be Confirmed

The announcement leaves more questions than answers. It's unknown which studio will animate the series, who will direct it, or which voice actors will bring Shun and Naoki to life. There are also no details on the format: how many episodes it will have or whether it will be a single season.

For an anime arriving in April 2027, there's plenty of room. The production has more than enough time to reveal those details in the coming months. The usual timeline would see the studio and main staff announced before the end of 2026, but with these adaptations, you never know.

The promotional visual shows the two protagonists in a colorful setting, with confetti and playful gestures. It captures the spirit of the manga well: light, humorous, and built on the idea that the journey matters more than the destination.

Matsuda also shared a commemorative illustration for the announcement. It's a detail manga readers tend to appreciate, as it confirms the author is involved in the promotion in some way, even if it's still unclear to what extent she's participating in the anime's production.

The series arrives at a time when adaptations of school romantic comedies continue to have a loyal audience. It's not the genre that moves the industry's biggest numbers, but it has a steady base. And Walking Home with You starts with the advantage of a simple, endearing concept: two people who turn the ordinary into something memorable.

We'll have to see if the studio that takes on the project can capture that charm. Adaptations of this kind live or die by the chemistry between the leads and the pacing of the comedy. Bad voice casting or careless animation can quickly snuff out the magic.

For now, all that's left is to wait for more news. April 2027 is far off, but the spring premiere calendar is already starting to fill up with interesting names.
