Shishi no Oukoku
獅子の王国
In 1995, in a village in Zaire, Africa, Yoko, a recent medical school graduate, works tirelessly to treat patients during an outbreak of the Ebola virus. As the epidemic spreads, she and her colleagues confront the terrifying limits of human medicine and the fragility of life, questioning their place in the world.
The story then shifts to 1501 in the Republic of Florence, where a young sculptor named Michelangelo struggles with his craft, frustrated by his inability to obtain the perfect stone for his work. Both narratives explore the tension between human ambition and the forces that challenge it.
