Kaya Takada was born into a farming commune where children lived separately from their parents and were expected to take part in the labor. At nineteen, she and her family willingly left to live in the outside world. In this debut work, she recounts her childhood in the place she simply calls "The Village."
Through her memories, she explores the strict caretakers, the clashes with the outside world, the happy moments, and the harsh life lessons that shaped her upbringing. The story offers a personal look at growing up in a closed community and the transition to a different life beyond it.
