Shirahase Ayumu is a shy junior high school student who finds confidence only when playing the trumpet. After being stood up by a girl he liked, he goes to a park to play and forget his sorrows. There, he hears a beautiful French horn melody played by a girl whose passionate performance captivates him. When she finishes, she leaves without a word, and Ayumu returns to the park day after day hoping to see her again, but she never reappears.
Entering high school, Ayumu discovers that the mysterious girl is Seryuu Yuriko, a gifted musician with a troubled relationship with music. When she plays, her mind enters a fugue state, and she has no memory of what she does. Frustrated and angry, she has tried to give up playing multiple times.
