An honest old man lives alone with a large lump on his face. One day, while walking in the mountains, he stumbles upon a group of tengu, mythical bird-like creatures, who are celebrating and dancing joyfully. Intrigued, he joins their dance.
The tengu are delighted by his performance and, as a reward for his cheerful spirit, they remove the unsightly lump from his cheek. The old man returns home transformed, but his happiness soon attracts the envy of his greedy neighbor, who also seeks the tengu's favor.
