The anime adaptation of PSYREN premieres this Monday, October 5 at 11:00 PM on TOKYO MX and other Japanese networks. To celebrate, five mangaka associated with Weekly Shonen Jump have published commemorative illustrations that are circulating widely on social media.

The original manga, created by Toshiaki Iwashiro, was serialized in the magazine between 2008 and 2010. It blends supernatural battles with suspense and a deadly game premise: the protagonist, Ageha Yoshina, answers a call from a payphone and ends up caught in a nationwide conflict after meeting Sakurako Amamiya, a girl who returns from a mysterious world called Psyren.

The story begins when Ageha, a troubled high school student, discovers that behind that call lies a survival game involving psychic powers. From there, the plot expands into a secret organization and a dystopian future. The series earned a place among the magazine's readers for its pacing and a power system more elaborate than usual in the genre.

Five creators, five tributes

The illustrators who took part in the tribute are Kohei Horikoshi (My Hero Academia), Yuki Tabata (Black Clover), Yuto Suzuki (Sakamoto Days), Naoshi Komi (Nisekoi), and Tatsuya Endo (Spy x Family). All of them shared their drawings of PSYREN characters in their signature styles.

"The level of the artwork is incredible," is one of the most repeated comments on Japanese social media.

There are also reactions focused on the reunion between creators of the same generation. Several readers highlight that Horikoshi drew Ageha using magic, or that the author of Sakamoto Days joined the tribute. The combination of styles has served as a reminder of the influence PSYREN had on a generation of mangaka who now lead the magazine.

The anime arrives under the title PSYREN -Sairen-. Broadcasting begins tonight on TOKYO MX, and no additional networks or international distribution platforms have been detailed yet.
