The My Sweet Marriage to My Ex-Nemesis Anime Is on Its Way

Kadokawa confirms the TV adaptation of Toshimichi Uzo's light novels, with Atsushi Nigorikawa directing.

Kadokawa dropped the bomb: My Sweet Marriage to My Ex-Nemesis (Soshiki no Shukuteki to Kekkon Shitara Mecha Amai) is getting an anime. The publisher confirmed it officially and a production team is already attached to the project.

Atsushi Nigorikawa is directing at Ankichi Kobo studios. Nigorikawa previously worked on A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring, so he knows how to move between light fantasy and family dynamics. Keiichiro Ochi is in charge of script supervision and writing, a name that carries weight after The Quintessential Quintuplets and Summer Pockets. Yuki Nakano handles character design.

To celebrate the announcement, original illustrator Kewi Hayashi released a commemorative illustration. There is no premiere date or voice cast yet.

From bitter enemies to newlyweds

The premise hooks you fast. Roshi Saigawa and Ritsuka Nagira are two warriors with superpowers who spent years leading rival organizations. Their duels were fierce, with no quarter. But the factions disbanded and the rivalry took an unexpected turn: they started dating and ended up getting married.

Now they have traded weapons for wedding vows and are trying to live a sweet everyday life. The problem is that old combat habits and past arguments resurface in the middle of the romance. Grocery shopping after trying to destroy each other on the battlefield is the most chaotic scenario possible, and that is where the fun lies.

A young franchise growing fast

The original light novels are by Toshimichi Uzo, with illustrations by Kewi Hayashi. They began publication in October 2023 under Kadokawa's Dengeki Bunko imprint. Three years later they already have a confirmed anime, steady progress for a series that has not stopped gaining readers.

The franchise also has a manga adaptation by Shiime. It has been serialized in Dengeki Maoh magazine since November 2024. So the fanbase has been growing on two fronts before the animation hits the air.

What catches my attention is how romantic comedy keeps finding fresh angles. It is not just "enemies to lovers": it is what happens after the wedding, when two people trained to kill each other have to decide who does the dishes. The tension does not disappear; it transforms. And that, executed well, has a lot of potential.

It remains to be seen whether the anime can capture that blend of tenderness and absurdity. With Ochi on scripts, there are reasons to trust the comedic pacing. With Nigorikawa directing, the fantasy setting should be well handled. Now we just have to wait for them to drop a trailer and a release window.
