Playing Sister Releases Teaser for Its Second Episode, 'Investigation'

The anime Playing Sister (Onee-chan Gokko) now has a teaser for its second episode. Titled "Investigation" ("Chousa-hen"), it gives us a closer look at this story that blends mystery with the legend of doubles. That said, there is still no confirmed release date.

What we do know is where we will be able to watch it. Like the first episode, which premiered in January 2026, this new installment will arrive on director HarumakiGohan's YouTube channel, as well as niconico and bilibili. The first episode included subtitles in several languages, including English and Chinese, so it is likely this one will follow the same path.

For those unfamiliar with the work, Playing Sister is a project by HarumakiGohan, known as a vocaloid producer and illustrator. Here he handles direction and script, with production by his Studio Gohan. The series is planned as a three-episode story that would wrap up around a year after the January premiere.

A village, two sisters, and an unsettling legend

The premise already gave us chills from the first episode. In a distant future, advanced technology is concentrated in the cities, leaving rural areas forgotten. In that context lies Kagami Village, a remote place among mountains where an old warning is still told: "Behave, or a Double will come for you."

That is where Akane Higure lives, a middle school student eagerly awaiting the return of her older sister, Sui Higure. After a year hospitalized, she is finally discharged. But shortly after Sui comes home, Akane receives a single phone call. And that is all we will say, because the story is just beginning.

The phrase that accompanies the project sums it all up: "The girl at home with you… is not your sister." That makes it clear the theme of doubles is not just decoration. It is the heart of the plot.

HarumakiGohan's signature

If you already know HarumakiGohan's work, you know his visual style is very distinctive. His illustrations have a soft, almost ethereal atmosphere that contrasts with the stories he tends to tell. This is no exception: the teaser for the second episode maintains that polished aesthetic, with colors that feel nostalgic and a tension that builds little by little.

Beyond the anime, there are songs based on the universe of the work. That is not unusual coming from a music producer, and it adds another layer to the experience. It is a small, independent project that does not follow the traditional seasonal calendar, and that is exactly why it feels different.
