Nue's Exorcist Confirms Anime for Summer 2027 with First Trailer

Finally. Nue's Exorcist is getting an anime, and the wait won't be as long as we feared: it's coming to TV Asahi in summer 2027. The announcement was made today on Jump Press and came loaded with material: first teaser trailer, promotional image, main cast, and the studio handling the animation.

Studio Hibari takes the reins on the project. For those of us who follow Shonen Jump adaptations closely, that's a detail that matters, because it sets the visual tone for the series. The teaser already shows Gakuro Yajima and Nue in motion, and honestly, it feels right.

A manga that's been begging for an anime for a while

The original manga has been running in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2023 and already has 16 collected volumes in Japan. You can read it same-day on MANGA Plus, including in English, so a good chunk of the community already knows these two protagonists.

The hype doesn't come out of nowhere: it ranked first in the AnimeJapan 2025 poll as the manga most people wanted to see animated. That puts extra pressure on the studio from day one, but it also confirms there's a massive fanbase waiting for this.

What Nue's Exorcist is about

The story follows Gakuro Yajima, an outcast boy who can see spirits. One day he crosses paths with Nue, a rather peculiar spirit who asks for his help dealing with the evil spirits haunting his school. A supernatural premise with a comedic touch—the kind that usually works very well in Shonen Jump when handled properly.

We like that starting point. A protagonist who begins as an outcast and a spiritual companion with a personality of their own leave a lot of room for character growth. And if the manga has kept up the pace for 16 volumes, there's plenty of material for a solid first season.

There's still almost a year until the premiere, but this first look already left us wanting more. Summer 2027 is shaping up to be a strong season for exorcisms and spirits. In the meantime, it's time to catch up on the manga.
