Netflix drops a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 clip and confirms its release date

Netflix released a teaser for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on September 23. The clip runs 1 minute and 17 seconds, is titled "Cyberpsychosis," and makes it clear the series will hit the platform on October 20 of this year.

The video shows the three protagonists in the middle of a job, when the crew isn't complete yet. In the scene, veteran edge runner Vic Kingsley —known as "The King"— and a partner try to get out of a corporate facility. The door locks down, so Kingsley activates his eye scanner and starts blasting the guards.

The most interesting part comes after: the teaser shows Kingsley with symptoms of cyberpsychosis. His perception distorts and the environment fills with hallucinations and ghostly silhouettes. For those unfamiliar with the lore, cyberpsychosis is the mental disorder caused by implanting too much chrome, marked by depersonalization, loss of empathy, and violent outbursts.

The project once again brings together CD PROJEKT RED and the Japanese studio TRIGGER. Kai Igarashi directs, character designs are by Ichigo Kanno, and the script is written by Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka.

A new story, not a second season

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will have 10 episodes and will tell a story independent from the first installment, focused on redemption and revenge. Alongside Kingsley we'll meet D, a netrunner hunting down the person responsible for her family's massacre; Roman Carax, a cinephile looking for real stories in Night City; and Talia Young, connected to both the corporations and Maelstrom.

The title is a direct nod to the first series, which premiered in 2022 and left us all heartbroken. That story of David and Lucy became a phenomenon and put TRIGGER on the map for plenty of people who didn't follow anime. Now it's time to see if this new batch of characters can pull off the same thing.

Netflix will release all 10 episodes on October 20, though it hasn't been confirmed yet whether a Latin Spanish dub will be available from day one or arrive later. Given how much we love cyberpunk around here, we hope it does.
