Naruto × Ninkū: 4-Episode Crossover Anime Announced with Both Authors Supervising

The project was unveiled at New York Comic Con 2026 alongside PROJECT RASENGAN, a new Kishimoto manga, and a global card game.

What many Naruto fans had been asking for on forums for years has just been confirmed. During New York Comic Con 2026, the "NARUTO: What's Next?" panel served to announce Naruto × NINKŪ -Ninja Wind-, a four-episode crossover anime that will bring Team 7 together with the characters from NINKŪ -忍空-, the Kōji Kiriyama manga that inspired Masashi Kishimoto.

The production has a detail that sets it apart from typical commemorative specials: both authors are involved. Kishimoto and Kiriyama supervise the entire script, while Noriyuki Abe (Bleach, NINKŪ, Boruto) directs and Tetsuya Nishio (Naruto, NINKŪ) handles character design and animation supervision. Studio Pierrot produces.

A Kishimoto "dream" come true

The connection between the two works isn't a commercial gimmick. Kishimoto has said on more than one occasion that NINKŪ was a direct influence on his decision to create Naruto. At the panel, he repeated it without hesitation: "If NINKŪ didn't exist, Naruto wouldn't exist." And he went further: "Fūsuke is Naruto's hidden master."

Kiriyama, for his part, thanked Kishimoto for the proposal and admitted that seeing the two worlds cross over is "truly exciting" for him. The story places Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura on a mission assigned by Kakashi. Naruto serves as acting captain, and in the middle of the task, the trio falls into an alternate world. There, Fūsuke appears—the frog-faced boy and member of the Ninkū.

The official synopsis doesn't clarify how long they'll spend in that world or whether there will be more NINKŪ characters besides Fūsuke. What was confirmed is that the story will show Team 7 in their childhood stage, something Kishimoto himself described as "a continuation in the truest sense."

PROJECT RASENGAN and everything that followed

The crossover wasn't the only announcement of the night. Bandai Namco and Shueisha unveiled PROJECT RASENGAN, a long-term global plan aiming to expand Naruto across manga, anime, video games, and collectible cards. The first visible piece is the Naruto Card Game, a TCG that will go on sale simultaneously worldwide in June 2027.

The game, developed by Bandai Card Games, focuses on choosing a captain as the core of the deck and surrounding them with supporting ninja. The mechanics promise to emphasize bluffing and the use of jutsus as control tools. The first card illustrations and an animated trailer produced by Pierrot were shown.

The global launch of Naruto Mobile, the action game that has been running in China since 2016, was also announced. There's no date for the West, and Bandai warned that availability and languages will vary by region.

The main event for manga readers came at the closing: Kishimoto is preparing a new Naruto manga. Only a surprise trailer was shown—no magazine, no date, and no content details. Logic points to more information coming at Jump Festa 2027, held on December 19 and 20 at Makuhari Messe.

What remains to be defined

The crossover still has several significant gaps. No streaming platform, release date, or distribution format was announced. The voice cast wasn't discussed either, though the presence of Junko Takeuchi (Naruto) and Noriaki Sugiyama (Sasuke) at the panel suggests the classic cast is involved in some way.

Takeuchi commented that reuniting with Fūsuke and his original cast after nearly thirty years felt "deeply emotional." About working with Sasuke and Sakura again in their childhood stage, she added: "That period when Sasuke was an ally... how precious it was."

New York Comic Con made it clear that 2027 will be a dense year for the franchise. The new manga, the card game, and the four-episode crossover point to a relaunch strategy not seen since the days of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

I grew up with the generation that watched Naruto on broadcast TV and downloaded NINKŪ episodes in questionable quality. Seeing Fūsuke and Naruto on the same screen, with Kishimoto and Kiriyama supervising, feels like one of those things you never expect to actually happen. Now the question is whether Pierrot can maintain the visual standard a project like this deserves. What do you think of the announcement? Are you interested in the crossover, or would you rather focus on the new manga? Let us know in the comments.
