Naruto and Ninku Announce Joint Anime with Original Story

Team 7 falls into another world and meets Fuusuke in a collaboration supervised by Kishimoto and Kiriyama.

Juan Castillo 11 October 2026

Shueisha has just made it official: Naruto and Ninku will have a joint anime. The work will tell a completely original story and will be supervised by Masashi Kishimoto and Kouji Kiriyama, the authors of both manga.

The plot kicks off with a simple mission. Kakashi has other matters to attend to and leaves Team 7 under Naruto's command as acting captain. He takes on the role with full attitude, as expected. But things go wrong fast: Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura end up falling into another world during the mission. There, a boy named Fuusuke appears, the protagonist of Ninku. What awaits them in that place is a trial that has yet to be detailed.

The announcement gives no release date or format. It only confirms that the project is in production and that both authors are participating as supervisors. For those of us who grew up with Team 7, the idea of seeing them in an isekai with Fuusuke is, at the very least, a strange generational clash.

What Ninku Is and Why This Crossover Matters

Naruto needs no introduction. Kishimoto's story defined 2000s shōnen and turned Naruto Uzumaki into one of the most recognizable characters in anime. Its starting point is well known: the boy who carries the sealed Nine-Tails inside him and goes from being despised by his village to earning everyone's respect through sheer stubbornness and fists.

Ninku is something else. Kouji Kiriyama's manga was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump between 1993 and 1995, and had an anime adaptation in 1995. Its protagonist, Fuusuke, is a ninja with a ridiculous appearance—pug face, small body—that hides immense power. The story takes place after a war, with Fuusuke confronting an organization of heroes that has become corrupted.

The clash of tones is evident. Naruto treats its ninja world with epic scale and drama. Ninku mixes absurd humor with serious action. Seeing Sasuke interact with Fuusuke could lead to unintentional comedy or a crossover that respects both works. The track record of these types of projects says that balance is not easy.

An Isekai with Team 7

What stands out most about the announcement is the use of the alternate world device. Team 7 doesn't travel to the past or receive a normal mission: they fall into a different world. That allows the characters to come together without completely breaking the internal logic of each series. It's a convenient solution, yes, but also the most functional one for a special or a movie.

Kishimoto has already played with alternate realities in the Naruto movies. Road to Ninja, for example, placed Naruto and Sakura in a world with inverted personalities. The difference here is that the other world isn't a variant of their own, but the territory of another franchise. That changes the rules of fanservice: it's no longer just about seeing Team 7 in a strange situation, but seeing them react to a ninja who doesn't belong to their system.

It remains to be seen whether the story will be canon, a commemorative special, or a movie. The statement doesn't clarify it. Nor does it say if we'll see more Ninku characters besides Fuusuke, or how long the trial mentioned in the synopsis will last.

What is clear is that the collaboration aims to unite two generations of Jump readers. Those who grew up with Ninku in the 90s and those who made Naruto a global phenomenon. If it works, it's a tribute. If it fails, it'll be a forgettable special. With Kishimoto and Kiriyama supervising, at least there's a real creative filter.
