MINISO Opens Its First SUPER MINISO Store in Canada with Exclusive Naruto Collection
The Mississauga location reopened on October 10 with dedicated character zones and gifts for early shoppers.
MINISO completely renovated its store at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, and reopened it on October 10 as SUPER MINISO. It is the first store with this format outside of China, the company announced on October 12.
The big news for anime fans is that Canada receives the full NARUTO × MINISO collection for the first time. Until now, getting these products meant importing them or settling for whatever trickled in. The store also debuts the Hit Snooze collection from Stitch and is preparing over 100 new Hello Kitty and Friends items.
It's not an anime store, mind you. It still sells clothing, cosmetics, and everyday products, but now each character has its own space. A MINISO Canada employee explained before the opening that the renovation included separate furniture and displays for the different collections. It's a strategic shift: character merchandising is no longer tucked away in a corner but placed at the center of the shopping experience.
Naruto, Stitch, and a Growing List of Releases
MINISO's list of upcoming collections includes Chiikawa, Mofusand, Marvel, and Demon Hunter. There are no specific dates for each one, but the company mentions them in its release calendar. If the opening pace holds, it wouldn't be surprising to see them before the year ends.
The October 10 opening had gifts designed to draw crowds from day one. MINISO offered Naruto blind-box fridge magnets and Stitch vinyl plushies in blind boxes for shoppers who met certain requirements. The first 500 registered fans who met the conditions could receive a CAD 5 coupon for purchases of at least CAD 25.
Those who checked in, showed the coupon, and presented the same-day receipt could choose one of the surprise gifts while supplies lasted. Additionally, Naruto fans had another option: a special lenticular badge for those who shared their visit on social media.
Four New Stores in Two Months
The Square One location is just the first stop. MINISO plans to open four stores in Canada between October and November. Two more will be SUPER MINISO, in Winnipeg and Montréal. Toronto will get a different format: MINISO LAND, focused almost entirely on character merchandising, without the clothing and cosmetics that SUPER MINISO retains.
The difference between formats is clear. MINISO LAND goes all-in on characters. SUPER MINISO is a hybrid: it keeps the chain's usual catalog but gives character collections a starring role. For the fan who just wants merch, MINISO LAND will be the most direct option. For the shopper who browses figures while running errands, SUPER MINISO fits the bill.
The Mississauga store is located at 100 City Centre Drive. The mall's hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
The Canadian expansion comes at a time when MINISO has been pushing its character collections in Asia for years. That the first SUPER MINISO outside China is in Canada is no accident: it's a market where anime is generating more and more money and where other chains have already proven that licensed merch sells. MINISO wants its share.
We'll have to see if the model works in North America. MINISO's prices tend to be low, but the quality of some products leaves something to be desired. The Naruto collection, however, looks set to be the big draw of these openings. Would you like to see this format come to your country? Tell us in the comments.
