Mecha Comic Launches HACHA, Its New Manga Label for Young and Adult Readers
The label kicks off on October 5 with four series and a prize for new creators worth up to 500,000 yen.
Mecha Comic launches HACHA on October 5, 2026, a manga label aimed at shōnen and seinen audiences. The company, which operates one of Japan's most popular digital comic services, starts the project with four titles and a contest for emerging creators.
The announcement was made by the company itself through a press release. In it, they explain that the label was born from the desire to "read outrageous manga" and that its intention is to move away from repeating genres and successful formulas. Instead, HACHA will seek to enhance the emotion, quirks, and characters unique to each author.
"HACHA" is a shōnen and seinen manga label born from the desire to read wild, unhinged manga, according to Mecha Comic.
Four series from day one
The launch date brings with it the start of four works: Kakumei Zenya!, Elpis: Shinjitsu, Aruiwa Chinmoku, Koishiro Chikyūjin, and Mari wa Kanojo ni Naritakute Monster wo Miteiru. The company has not detailed the release schedule for each series or the number of chapters available at launch.
The label is supported by Mecha Comic Creators, the group's publishing and creator support platform. Through it, they have launched the HACHA Shinjin-shō Hatankō 2026 | Shūran award, open to unpublished works in page format. Both finished manuscripts and storyboards are accepted, and the winner will receive 500,000 yen if they submit the complete work or 300,000 if they submit it as a name.
The submission period runs from October 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM until January 4, 2027, at 11:59 PM. The publisher will assign an editor from the label to the winning work to support its development and possible serialization. The contest will be held every three months.
Podcast with Inio Asano and limited print edition
Alongside the launch, HACHA debuts the audio program Shinjin Mangaka no Tame no Sagyō-yō Radio, hosted by Shūhei Chiyoda, a member of the editorial committee. The first guest is mangaka Inio Asano, author of Goodnight Punpun and Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction. The show will combine interviews with authors and practical content about manga creation.
Before the launch, on September 16, the company held a presentation of the label. The preparatory print edition, distributed exclusively by the Sanseidō bookstore chain, sold out its online reservations on the same day they opened. The Jinbōchō, Ikebukuro, Yūrakuchō, and Akihabara stores maintain dedicated displays for the launch.
The giveaway campaign on the official X account raffles copies of that preparatory edition signed by the participating authors. To enter, you need to follow the account and repost the indicated publication. The company warns that both the list of authors and the conditions may change without prior notice.
Mecha Comic has not yet confirmed whether HACHA will have editions in other languages or whether any of the four series will come to platforms outside Japan.
