The wait is over. Episode 1065 of Detective Conan, titled "Akane-iro no Senbazuru" ("The Crimson Thousand Cranes"), aired this October 11, 2026 with a moment fans of the series had been demanding for years: the formal confession between Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama.

According to the official announcement reported by Sohu, the Osaka couple closes in this episode one of the longest-running romantic storylines in the franchise. The scene takes place in the middle of a dangerous situation, a pattern the series has used in previous failed confession attempts between the two characters.

The city of Osaka has not let the occasion pass. To celebrate the event, a bus decorated with the image of the two characters and the message "Congratulations! Heiji and Kazuha?" has been put into circulation, along with the phrase "The number one couple of Naniwa is finally born!" The vehicle travels through the main streets of the city and, according to the outlet, numerous passersby have shared photographs of it on social media.

"The number one couple of Naniwa is finally born!"

The celebration is not limited to the bus. At the HARUKAS observatory, located in the Abeno district, a themed area dedicated to Heiji and Kazuha has been set up where visitors can listen to exclusive voice messages from the characters. The intention is to recreate the atmosphere of the confession scene for those who visit the space.

The animation team has also released a commemorative video that reviews the trajectory of both characters since their first appearance. The montage goes through the moments shared by Heiji and Kazuha over the years, including the previous confession attempts that were interrupted for various reasons.

A storyline that stretched on for decades

Heiji Hattori, the teenage detective from Osaka and friendly rival of Shinichi Kudo, first appeared in Gosho Aoyama's manga in 1996. Kazuha Toyama, his childhood friend and romantic interest, joined shortly after. Since then, the relationship between the two has worked as a mirror of Shinichi and Ran's, with the difference that Heiji and Kazuha had a more impulsive and less restrained dynamic.

The confession between Heiji and Kazuha became one of the most anticipated narrative threads for the fandom. On previous occasions, the series played with expectations: Heiji tried to confess in several arcs, but the scene was always interrupted by a case, a misunderstanding, or the intervention of a third party. Episode 1065 puts an end to that chain of failed attempts.

The episode airs as part of the animated adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment, which has remained active since 1996 with more than a thousand episodes aired. The series maintains its structure of standalone cases combined with arcs that advance the main plot, and this episode falls into the second group.

A celebration on a local scale

Osaka's reaction is consistent with the weight the city has in the identity of Heiji and Kazuha. Both characters are strongly linked to the Kansai region, speak in Osaka dialect, and often appear in recognizable settings of the city, such as Osaka Castle or the Namba district. The celebration campaign takes advantage of that geographical connection to turn an anime episode into a local tourist event.

The commemorative bus and the space at HARUKAS are the two actions confirmed so far. It has not been announced at this time whether the celebration will include more activities in the coming weeks or whether the episode will have a special distribution outside Japan.

The closure of the romantic storyline between Heiji and Kazuha leaves open the question of how it will affect the series' dynamics in upcoming arcs. The confession comes after other secondary romantic storylines in Detective Conan have also been resolved in recent years, suggesting a gradual advancement of the pending narrative material in Aoyama's work.
