Hanwha's Jarami webcomic teams up with Upbit to explain crypto
Eombit, the South Korean exchange's character, joins Jarami the squirrel in a series of Instagram episodes.
Hanwha Investment & Securities announced on October 2 a collaboration with Upbit to launch a webcomic campaign on Instagram. The partnership introduces Eombit, the mascot of the cryptocurrency exchange operated by Dunamu, into the series Jarami and Friends.
The series has been published since May on the investment firm's official Instagram account. Its protagonist is Jarami, a squirrel that hoards acorns but forgets where she hides them. That absent-mindedness is no accident: she represents the novice investor who doesn't know how to manage their assets. In each episode, Jarami meets a forest animal and learns a lesson about finance.
Eombit enters in episode 14
Eombit's debut takes place in episode 14. The name is short for "awesome bit." The official description presents the character as having a cute appearance but a mischievous personality, with a charm that is hard to pin down. Together with Jarami, Eombit will explain digital asset concepts in a simple way.
The campaign includes around ten joint posts across both companies' Instagram accounts. The idea, according to the press release, is to bring the characters' universes together and expand content about digital assets.
This is not the first time a South Korean financial company has used a webcomic to educate. The difference here is the entry of an exchange like Upbit, which already has its own mascot and has decided to lend it to another narrative. It's a cross-branding move that is rare in the sector.
Giveaway with prizes in won and merchandise
To celebrate the launch, the companies are holding an event. Those who follow Hanwha's Instagram account and leave a supportive comment on the campaign post will be entered into a draw.
- First prize: 10 winners, 50,000 won in Naver Pay points.
- Second prize: 20 winners, 30,000 won in Naver Pay points.
- Third prize: 50 winners, a Jarami and Eombit merchandise set with a water bottle and an extra-large mousepad.
Kim Dohyeong, managing director of innovation support at Hanwha, said the collaboration aims to help customers approach digital assets in a friendlier way. He added that this content is just the starting point for exploring other joint opportunities.
The Jarami and Friends series has no print version and is not published on traditional webtoon platforms. It lives exclusively on Instagram, which limits its reach but gives it an agile format: short episodes designed for mobile scrolling. It remains to be seen whether Eombit's arrival changes the tone of the series or whether it stays as a vehicle for financial education with adorable characters.
For now, the campaign has no announced end date. All that is known is that there will be around ten posts and that the giveaway depends on commenting on the official post. If you're interested in the crossover between finance and drawn storytelling, this is a curious case to keep an eye on.
