Gakuen Idolmaster GOLD RUSH Manga Releases Volume 7 on October 7
Kotone and her group clear the first N.I.A. phase and redefine their unit's concept with Inuzuka's help.
The seventh collected volume of Gakuen Idolmaster GOLD RUSH hits Japanese bookstores on October 7. Dengeki Online announced the date, also revealing the arc covered in this volume: the aftermath of the first N.I.A. phase and the rethinking of Kotone's group.
The work adapts the universe of Gakuen Idolmaster, the school spin-off of The Idolmaster franchise, into manga form. The protagonist is Fujita Kotone, a student at Hatsuboshi Academy who pursues an unusual goal for the genre: getting rich to lift her family out of poverty.
The starting point is deliberately bleak. Kotone juggles part-time jobs with an idol career that never quite takes off. Things change when she meets Inuzuka, a student in the school's production department. He becomes the producer who tries to channel her talent.
What Happens in Volume 7
The volume opens with the first N.I.A. audition already cleared. The N.I.A. —New Idol Audition— is the rookie competition that drives the story's conflicts. Passing the first round, however, solves nothing: it forces Kotone and her groupmates to look at the project with fresh eyes.
The official synopsis sums it up in one line: "the girls decide to revisit their unit's concept ahead of the second audition." It's a plot turn that goes beyond the typical tournament. It's not just about winning, but about defining what kind of group they want to be before stepping on stage again.
Inuzuka's role is central once more. The question posed by the preview —"what will be the next move alongside Inuzuka?"— suggests production strategy will carry as much weight as the performances. It's a reading consistent with the manga's tone, which since its first chapter has focused on the unglamorous work behind the idol industry.
"Top idol to support a poor family: Kotone's dream is as materialistic as it is honest"
Dengeki Online notes that its article contains spoilers for this arc. The information circulating so far is limited to the back-cover synopsis, with no details on how the second phase actually unfolds. You'll have to read the volume to see how the group's redefinition plays out.
A Franchise in Full Expansion
The Gakuen Idolmaster GOLD RUSH manga is part of the multimedia push Bandai Namco has built around Hatsuboshi Academy. The original game launched in Japan in May 2024 and has since spawned adaptations, events, and a notably active fanbase.
The manga's approach differs from other branches of the franchise. Here the focus is on the relationship between an aspiring idol and a rookie producer, with a more grounded tone. Kotone isn't the typical heroine who succeeds on charisma alone: she's a girl with debts, impossible schedules, and a motivation rooted in family survival.
Volume 7 goes on sale in Japan with no Spanish license announced so far. The series runs in Dengeki Maoh, the same imprint that publishes the collected volumes.
The next date marked on the series' calendar is, precisely, that October 7. From there, it remains to be seen whether the unit's rethinking wins over readers as much as it did the N.I.A. judges.
