Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Will Have 19 Episodes and Retell the First Sagas
Toei Animation's new version of the anime will condense over 40 original episodes into a short season, though the number is not yet official.
The return of Dragon Ball Super comes with a notable change of pace. The new edition, titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, will have 19 episodes according to information circulating after its October 2026 premiere. The number contrasts with the 131 episodes of the original series and has yet to be officially confirmed by Toei Animation.
This is not a new continuation, but a reconstruction of the early arcs of Dragon Ball Super. The project aims for a more direct narrative, with revised scenes and an updated visual presentation to get closer to the story conceived by Akira Toriyama.
Which arcs this edition will cover
The season will span three fundamental blocks from the series' initial stage. The first is the clash between Goku and Beerus, the God of Destruction. Then comes the threat of Frieza in his golden form. And it closes with the tournament between universes 6 and 7.
These are key moments for Goku and Vegeta's growth, and also for the expansion of the franchise's universe. If the 19 episodes are confirmed, the series will have to condense events that took up more than 40 episodes in the original broadcast.
That could mean a narrative with fewer pauses and more agile transitions. However, no complete official episode guide has been published yet, so we'll have to see how they handle compressing so much material into such a short space.
Technical changes and new music
One of the most significant changes is on the technical side. According to the official announcement, the enhanced version incorporates new scenes, adjustments to existing sequences, a reconstruction of the footage, and modifications to the voice acting, music, and sound effects.
The goal is to raise the intensity of the battles and renew the experience for those already familiar with the story. The return also brings a new musical identity. The opening, titled "ONOGAMI," is performed by MEGATERA・ZERO, while VK Blanka sings the ending theme.
The new trailer shows the clash between Goku and Beerus with revamped visuals, reinforcing the visual ambition of this special edition. This isn't the first time Toei has revisited previously aired material, but it is the first time it has done so with such an aggressive restructuring of the narrative pacing.
What remains to be confirmed
With Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, the franchise seeks to revisit a key era with a renewed presentation and a more compact story. The 19 episodes remain a reported figure that must still be officially confirmed.
What is already clear is that Goku and his allies are returning to the screen with a version designed to rediscover their first great battles. The question is whether that accelerated pace will work or if it will leave out moments that fans consider essential.
