Digimon Adventure returns to TV with its first remastered episode on October 4
The 'Bokura ga Eranda Best Adventure' project kicks off with the episode 'Drift? The Island of Adventure!' and an opening that brings together four generations of DigiDestined.
Nostalgia is putting on its Sunday morning clothes. This October 4, Digimon Adventure returns to Japanese television with its first episode, Drift? The Island of Adventure!, as part of the Bokura ga Eranda Best Adventure project (roughly Our Chosen Best Adventure). Toei Animation announced it on October 2 and also revealed a preview of the opening and several images from the episode.
The concept is simple and rather exciting: fans from around the world voted for their favorite episodes from the first four Digimon series—Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, and Digimon Frontier—and the top picks are now airing in remastered form. This isn't just a plain rerun: it's a look back at the best of the franchise, chosen by the community itself.
What happened in the first episode
For those who don't remember, the episode begins with an unusual summer: drought, floods, and snow in the middle of August. Taichi and his friends see an aurora borealis that shouldn't be visible from Japan and, suddenly, a light bursting from a crack in the sky whisks them away to another world. There, they encounter creatures that claim to have been waiting for them: the Digital Monsters. That's where it all began in 1999.
The episode will air on 25 stations affiliated with Fuji TV. Most will broadcast it on Sunday morning, though some will run slightly later, such as Fukui TV at 5:00 or TV Miyazaki at 5:30.
A handoff with a surprise
This project doesn't come alone. On October 4, Bokura ga Eranda Best Adventure takes over the Sunday 9:00 a.m. slot from Digimon Beatbreak. To celebrate, Toei shared a special baton-pass illustration: Agumon and Gekkomon giving a high five, drawn by Takahiro Kojima, the character designer for Beatbreak.
Two anime characters, one green and one yellow, interact in a friendly way.A preview of the opening was also released. The footage shows characters from all four series together, something that didn't happen in the original broadcast and that hints at the anniversary celebration tone. The idea is for the opening to serve as a gateway for both veterans and those stepping into the digital world for the first time.

There's a key date behind all of this: on June 26, 1997, the Digital Monster electronic toy went on sale. In 2027, it will be 30 years since that tamagotchi with teeth and a fighting spirit, and Toei has already launched the Digimon 30th Anniversary project. This broadcast of episodes chosen through a worldwide vote is its first major step.
The selection includes the chapters that placed between 1st and 11th in the voting, and all will be shown in remastered form. For now, the schedule kicks off with the first episode of the original series, but it hasn't yet been announced which other episodes will complete the list or how many weeks the broadcast will last.
What is clear is that Sunday mornings are starting to smell like summer camp, File Island, and the song Butter-Fly again. And that, in the middle of 2026, is something to be grateful for.
