Demon's Crest Shows Its Battle Art and the Actual Magic Outfits
The anime by Reki Kawahara premieres on November 6 on Prime Video with designs by Yūkiko Horiguchi.
Demon's Crest (Demonzu Kuresuto) has unveiled a new key visual focused on battle and the designs of four of its protagonists wearing the outfits from Actual Magic, the mixed reality video game in which the story takes place. The anime premieres on November 6, 2026 on Prime Video with exclusive worldwide distribution.
The artwork shows the characters ready for combat with a very dynamic style. Alongside this illustration, the team has released individual visuals of Yūma Ashihara, Sawa Ashihara, Kenji Kondō, and Nagi Chanomizu, all four wearing the clothes they use inside the game.
From the Sword Art Online author to mixed reality
The story is based on an idea by Reki Kawahara, the author of Sword Art Online and Accel World. While his best-known work explored virtual reality and the film Ordinal Scale jumped to augmented reality, here he takes the step into mixed reality: a world in which the game Actual Magic and real life merge in an isolated environment where a new death game begins.
The promotional tagline makes the premise clear: "This is a game and, at the same time, it is reality." A statement of intent that is quite reminiscent of the tone of his previous works, but with the particularity that here there are no goggles to take off: both worlds coexist.
A cast with familiar faces
Studio Production I.G is handling the animation, with Yūkiko Horiguchi in charge of character designs and original illustrations. The main cast features Haruka Shiraishi as Yūma, Inori Minase as Sawa, Yūya Hirose as Kenji, and Satomi Amano as Nagi. Yūsuke Kobayashi, Maaya Uchida, Rie Murakawa, and Sora Amamiya round out the ensemble.
Ken'ichirō Komaya is directing, with Shinji Ushiro as chief director and Eiji Umehara on series composition. The opening theme, "Shinka," is performed by Ado, and the ending theme, "ReaL," is by Soala.
With the premiere just over a month away, the next thing to expect is more previews of the game's world and perhaps a glimpse at how this fusion between the virtual and the physical is approached. For now, the battle art makes it clear that action will be one of the project's pillars.
