Daniel Wu Joins the Cast of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, Premiering October 20 on Netflix
The actor will voice Kirill Yang in the new season of the CDPR and TRIGGER series, which arrives with 10 episodes and a standalone story.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has a major new addition to its cast. CD Projekt Red confirmed on October 1 that actor Daniel Wu (吴彦祖) is joining the series to voice Kirill Yang, one of the characters in this highly anticipated follow-up. The second season will land on Netflix on October 20 with a run of 10 episodes.
The news was made official by the Polish studio, which is once again teaming up with Japanese anime studio TRIGGER for the animation. This isn't the first time these two have worked together: they already did so on the first installment, and the result was one of the most talked-about anime of 2022. Now they're repeating the formula with a completely new story.
A New Story Within the Cyberpunk 2077 Universe
This second season will not continue the story of David Martinez and Lucy. Instead, it will tell a standalone story set in the same universe as Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red's role-playing game. The plot will revolve around four new characters: Vick Kingsley, the netrunner D, the cinephile Roman Carax, and Talia Yang.
The themes driving this story will be redemption and revenge. Two classic engines for a city like Night City, where the line between surviving and losing everything is razor-thin. Details on how these four fates will intersect haven't been revealed yet, but the premise already points to another intense journey through the underbelly and the upper echelons of the megalopolis.
Daniel Wu's Role and the Creative Team
Daniel Wu will play Kirill Yang, a character about whom no further details are known at this time. The actor is no stranger to the world of voice acting: he already appeared in the English version of DragonBlade: The Legend of Lang (2005) and lent his voice to No. 7 Cherry Lane (2019). His casting adds a very recognizable name for international audiences, especially after works like Into the Badlands and American Born Chinese.
Behind the camera, the team also boasts some impressive names. Directing duties fall to Kai Igarashi (五十岚海), known for his work on SSSS.GRIDMAN and SSSS.DYNAZENON. Main character design is handled by Ichigo Kanno (菅野一期), and the writing team includes Masahiko Otsuka (大冢雅彦) and Bartosz Sztybor. Sztybor, a regular writer for the Cyberpunk universe in comics, won a Hugo Award for his work on the graphic novel series.
The combination of Polish and Japanese talent was one of the keys to the first season's success. That installment started as a modest commission and ended up becoming a phenomenon that brought many people back to the video game. With this second season, expectations are through the roof.
Graphic design featuring the title 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2'.It remains to be seen how Kirill Yang's character will fit into the plot and whether Daniel Wu will also provide dubbing in other languages or only in the English version. What's already certain is that on October 20 we'll have a new excuse to return to Night City, this time with a story that promises to keep us on the edge of our seats.
